The area of the island is about 300 km2, with a current population of 45,000 people.
The climate of Cat Ba Island is of the tropical monsoon type, influenced by the ocean. The average temperature ranges from 25 – 28°C, varying with the seasons. In the summer, the temperature can rise above 30°C, while in the winter it averages 15-20°C, but can drop below 10°C (when the northeast monsoon winds blow). The average humidity is about 85%. If you are in Quang Ninh, you can combine a trip to Ha Long Bay and then go to Cat Ba Island. You can ask the boat owner in advance to buy a ticket with a service to Cat Ba.
If you are in Hai Phong, you can take a high-speed boat or a hydrofoil to the port in the center of Cat Ba tourist area. The travel time is about 45 minutes. If you want to take a ferry, you can take the Dinh Vu ferry, dock at Ninh Tiep, drive across Cat Hai Island, go to Got ferry port, take the second ferry to Cai Vieng port, and then drive another 20km to the center of Cat Ba tourist area.
