History of My Son Sanctuary

The My Son Sanctuary has a history of over 1000 years, from the 4th to the 13th century, as the religious and cultural center of the Champa Kingdom. The My Son Sanctuary is a place of worship and burial for the kings and spiritual masters of Champa, as well as a place to organize important rituals and festivals. The My Son Sanctuary is also a place that witnessed the historical fluctuations of Champa, such as the invasion of neighboring countries, such as Dai Viet, Cambodia, Laos, etc., and the devastation of war, such as the French-Dai Nam war, the American-Vietnam war, etc.

Architecture of My Son Sanctuary

The My Son Sanctuary has a unique architecture, which is a harmonious combination of Champa art and the influence of Indian culture. The My Son Sanctuary consists of more than 70 architectural works, divided into several groups, named after Latin letters, from A to H. The architectural works usually include a main temple, some auxiliary temples, an altar, and some stone steles. The architectural works are built of stone, brick, and lime, decorated with patterns, images, and sculptures, expressing reverence for the gods, such as God Siva, God Viṣṇu, God Ganeśa, etc.
