How to get to Hoi An, Vietnam

Hoi An is a city in Quang Nam province, located on the banks of the Thu Bon River, about 30 km south of Da Nang. Hoi An is one of the most attractive destinations in Vietnam, with many cultural, historical, and tourism values. Hoi An was recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage in 1999 and is considered a living museum of architecture and urban lifestyle in Vietnam. To get to Hoi An, tourists can choose various means of transportation, depending on their starting point, time, and cost.

By plane

This is the fastest and most convenient means to get to Hoi An from major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Lat… Currently, many domestic and international airlines provide flights to Da Nang International Airport, about 30 km from Hoi An. Tourists can book air tickets online or through travel agencies, with ticket prices ranging from 500,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND, depending on the time and airline. From Da Nang airport, tourists can take a bus, taxi, motorbike taxi, Grab, or rent a private car to get to Hoi An, with a travel time of about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

By train

This is a suitable means for tourists who like to experience natural landscapes and local culture along the way. There are many trains from major cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Hue… to Da Nang station, about 35 km from Hoi An. Train ticket prices range from 200,000 VND to 1,500,000 VND, depending on the type of seat, carriage, and time. The travel time ranges from 15 hours to 20 hours, depending on the starting point. From Da Nang station, tourists can take a bus, taxi, motorbike taxi, Grab, or rent a private car to get to Hoi An, with a travel time of about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

By coach

This is the most economical and popular means to get to Hoi An from neighboring provinces such as Da Nang, Hue, Quang Binh, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh… There are many high-quality and reputable coach companies providing passenger transportation services to Hoi An, such as Hoa Thinh, The Anh, Thanh Buoi, Phuong Trang… Coach ticket prices range from 50,000 VND to 300,000 VND, depending on the starting point and coach company. The travel time ranges from 1 hour to 6 hours, depending on the starting point. Tourists can book coach tickets online or through travel agencies, or go directly to the bus stations to buy tickets.

By motorbike

This is the most interesting and flexible means to get to Hoi An, especially for tourists who love to explore and adventure. Tourists can drive a motorbike from major cities such as Da Nang, Hue, Nha Trang… or rent a motorbike at tourist spots near Hoi An, such as Da Nang, Cu Lao Cham, Ba Na Hills… The motorbike rental price ranges from 100,000 VND to 200,000 VND per day, depending on the type of motorbike and rental time. Tourists can book a motorbike online or through motorbike rental shops at tourist spots. To get to Hoi An by motorbike, tourists can choose one of the following three routes:

  • Route 1: Go along Truong Sa road to Vo Nguyen Giap/Lac Long Quan then turn into Hoi An city.
  • Route 2: Go along Vo Chi Cong road to Lac Long Quan/Vo Nguyen Giap then turn into Hoi An city.
  • Route 3: Go along National Highway 1A to the South about 27Km to Vinh Dien road then turn left along Huynh Thuc Khang into Hoi An city.

To get to Hoi An, tourists can choose various means of transportation, depending on their starting point, time, and cost. Whether by plane, train, coach, or motorbike, tourists can enjoy the natural scenery and local culture along the way. Come to Hoi An to experience the beauty of a world cultural heritage city.
