1. Hoi An Ceramic Trade Museum
This is the first and only museum in Vietnam displaying ceramic artifacts from the Maritime Silk Road, a famous international trade route from the 9th to the 15th century. The museum has more than 400 ceramic artifacts from countries such as China, Japan, India, Thailand, Cambodia… excavated from the seabed and other locations in Hoi An. The museum helps visitors better understand the cultural and commercial exchanges between Hoi An and countries in the region and the world through historical periods.
2. Hoi An History and Culture Museum
This is the largest and most important museum in Hoi An, established in 1989. The museum is located in a traditional Hoi An house, with an area of about 800 m2. The museum displays more than 200 artifacts related to the history, culture, life, economy, religion of Hoi An from prehistoric times to modern times. The museum also recreates the scene of a bustling and prosperous Hoi An port in the past.
3. Sa Huynh Culture Museum
This is the only museum in Vietnam displaying artifacts about the Sa Huynh culture, an ancient culture developed in Central Vietnam from the 1st to the 10th century. The museum has more than 200 artifacts, mainly household items, worship items, jewelry, ceramics… excavated from various locations in Hoi An and neighboring provinces. The museum introduces the cultural, economic, social, religious, and artistic characteristics of the Sa Huynh people, as well as their interaction with other cultures.
4. Hoi An Folk Culture Museum
This museum displays artifacts about the folk culture of Hoi An, such as lanterns, folk paintings, children’s toys, worship items, woven items, handicrafts… The museum also introduces cultural activities, festivals, customs, practices of Hoi An people through periods. The museum is a place to preserve and promote the unique and distinctive folk cultural values of Hoi An.
5. Traditional Medicine Museum
This is the newest museum in Hoi An, opened in 2019. The museum is designed in the style of a traditional Hoi An house, divided into 6 exhibition spaces with more than 200 artifacts, many valuable books and documents about traditional medicine. The museum also recreates the scene of pulse diagnosis, treatment, drying yard, and the process of preserving various types of medicine. The museum is a place to introduce the development and contribution of traditional medicine in Hoi An, as well as a place to disseminate and preserve valuable knowledge about traditional medicine.
Museums in Hoi An are not only beautiful architectural works, but also valuable historical and cultural heritages of Hoi An.
