1. Location and climate of Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc, the largest and most beautiful island of Vietnam, is located near the Gulf of Thailand, in Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang province. The island has an area of 589.23 km², 120 km from Rach Gia city and 45 km from Ha Tien city. Phu Quoc, along with nearby smaller islands and the Tho Chu archipelago, forms Phu Quoc city, the first island city of Vietnam.

The climate in Phu Quoc is tropical monsoon, with two distinct seasons: dry and rainy. The dry season lasts from October to April of the following year, with an average temperature of about 27 – 28°C. The rainy season is from May to September, with an average rainfall of 414 mm/month. The average annual rainfall is 3,000 mm, which can reach 4,000 mm/year in the northern area of the island.

For a sunny beach holiday with water activities like boating and snorkeling, visit Phu Quoc during the dry season (October to April). However, this is the peak tourist season with higher room rates, so book in advance.

4. How to get to Phu Quoc

To get to Phu Quoc, you can choose one of two main methods: by air or by road combined with waterway.

By air: you can book a flight to Phu Quoc from various domestic airports, such as Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Can Tho, Cat Bi, etc. The flight time from these airports to Phu Quoc ranges from 1 hour to 2 hours, depending on the distance. The airfare also depends on the airline, flight time, and tourist season.

By road combined with waterway: you can take a bus, car, or motorbike to Rach Gia or Ha Tien, two coastal cities of Kien Giang province. From here, you will take a ferry or high-speed boat to Phu Quoc Island. The travel time from the mainland to Phu Quoc ranges from 2 hours to 3 hours, depending on the type of vehicle and departure point.

When traveling in Phu Quoc, you need to choose a place to stay that suits your needs and budget. You can choose to stay in a hotel, resort, homestay or camping each type will give you different experiences and services, but they all bring you an impressive vacation on this beautiful island.

Resorts: This is a high-end and luxurious type of accommodation, usually located on beautiful beaches, with many resort services, entertainment, and recreation. You can find many resorts in the Ong Lang area, Cua Can, or in the Vinpearl area… full of resort services.

Homestays: This is a cheap and close type of accommodation, usually provided by local people, with a cozy, simple space, you can cook, interact with the host. You can find many homestays in areas such as Bai Sao, Bai Khem, Bai Dai, etc.

Camping: This is an adventurous and interesting type of accommodation, usually for those who love nature, want to experience wild life, self-sufficient and free. You can find many camping spots in Phu Quoc, such as Bai Dai, Bai Truong, Bai Vong, etc. You can bring your own tent, food, drinks, or rent at nearby accommodations.

6. Cuisine and Specialties of Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc is not only known for its beautiful beaches and rich primeval forests. Phu Quoc is also a culinary paradise, with many delicious dishes and specialties that reflect the culture and people of this place.

Phu Quoc has many dishes made from fresh seafood, such as herring salad, abalone, scallops, grouper, sea urchin, etc. You can eat them raw, boiled, steamed, grilled, fried, stir-fried, or cooked into porridge, soup, hotpot, etc. You can find many restaurants and eateries serving seafood dishes on the beaches or in Duong Dong town.
